Fall/Winter Buying Day!!
August 20th, 2010Join us this Sunday from 1:30 to 3:30 for our ‘Fall/Winter Buying Day.’ Even if you have participated in our buying days before, please refer to the guidelines below for a refresher and note the items we are no longer buying; men’s and women’s pants, shorts, capris, shoes and home accessories of any kind. We especially want women’s skirts, short sleeve tops and dresses.
Getting ready for Buying Day:
• All clothing should be folded and in closed bags.
• Label each bag with the following 6 pieces of information:
o name
o cell phone number
o home address
o number of bags (i.e. 1 of 3)
o if you would like payment by check or store credit
o if you would like remaining items donated to Second Street, a non-profit thrift store benefitting orphanages in India, or if you’ll be picking them up (if picking up, please come back during Building Character’s hours; your remaining items will be labeled and in the RE:Purpose space waiting for you)
Buying Guidelines:
Pricing is based on the following: style, condition, brand and store’s stock needs.
Style – Our shoppers want to buy something that expresses who they are, so we rarely buy the basics. Think trendy colors, ruffles, silhouettes, and prints. Items that have a specific point of view like rocker, eco-chic, global or cutting-edge are our favorite types of pieces to bring in the store! That said, please feel free to bring in anything, just don’t be disappointed if it’s not bought.
Condition – Obviously, we only take pieces that are gently worn or new. Please look over your items carefully for stains, holes, stretched seams, etc. and do not bring those items in. Our motto is NJA (No Junk Allowed)! (:
Stock Needs - Typically, our focus will be on buying for the upcoming season. For example, in the summer, we will buy for fall and winter. If, however, we are running low on a particular type of clothing (i.e. men’s short sleeve shirts, women’s skirts), we might also focus on that. We buy both men’s and women’s clothing, as well as bags and jewelry. We are no longer buying men’s or women’s pants, shorts, capris, or shoes. Also, we are no longer buying home accessories of any type. We especially are looking for women’s skirts, short sleeve tops and dresses.
Brand - We will consider all name brands and vintage pieces, however certain name brands will bring a higher price. Here’s a sampling : Abercrombie & Fitch, Aeropostale, American Eagle Outfitters, Anthropologie, Banana Republic, Bebe, Charlotte Russe, Guess, H & M, Hollister, J. Crew, Seven, Tommy Hilfiger, Urban Outfitters (and any of its subsidiaries), Zara.
Clothing pricing begins at $0.75 and could go up to $5, though with the right combination of the above, prices might go higher. Most pieces bring from $1.75 to $2.50 for cash payment. If you choose to be paid in store credit, the value will be 25% above what the cash payment would have been. Prices are up to the buyer’s discretion.
